listening

listening to the sound of a tinny music box playing
i was reminded of my very own dear yellow peekaboo
it's one of those gadgets
you pull on a handle attached to a string
and it would play some music
while the string gets pulled back in

mine was yellow
it had a face of red polka dots on a white background
but i have since (out of curiousity)
torn out the sticker that gives it this look
and revealed its yellow plastic backing
i think it was meant to be a mouse
but i am not quite sure

it has two hand that covers its face
they swing in out in tandem
to reveal a pair of eyes
then they swing back in
to cover up the eyes again
it also has two ears that go up and down in rhythm with the hands

it has been with me since whenever
and it is still with me
although at the moment
it is sitting in my cupboard back home

yellow peekaboo is not working very well now
in order to get the music to play
i have to open it up and give the little switch mechanism a push
but heck
it is the one
the only
my very dear yellow peekaboo
and it will always have a place of its own in my room
